Hastings Family Service (HFS) is excited to share the results of this year’s record-breaking Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign which ran March 1 through April 6. The community rallied to raise over $214,000 and 34,124 pounds of food to help HFS provide help and hope for neighbors! It is the largest monetary total ever raised for HFS during MN Foodshare, and the total dollars and pounds of food will be proportionately matched by MN Foodshare and have an even greater impact!
According to Executive Director, Amy Sutton, a successful MN Foodshare March campaign and Hastings Tastings event was more important than ever due to the rising costs of basic needs like food and fuel as well as a decline in resources. Sutton indicated ” HFS is grateful to be part of a community where neighbors helping neighbors continues to be a priority. It is help and hope in action at a time of great uncertainty and unpredictable change that is causing a big escalation in need.” The generosity of the area community helps HFS maximize the proportionate match for food and funds offered by MN Foodshare.
A $25,000 gift to fight hunger from the Ruth Gale and George W. Doffing Charitable Fund, a $17,500 legacy gift from First Presbyterian Church, $10,000 from Journey Church, $6,597 in proceeds from the St Philips Lutheran Church garage sale, and $32,000 raised from this year’s Hastings Tastings helped lead to a record-breaking year.
DawnMarie Vihrachoff, Director of Philanthropy, shared “The MN Foodshare March campaign is a time when everyone comes together to make our community stronger. From children at area schools hosting food drives along with the National Honor Society students collecting nearly 6,000 pounds of food and $3,000, to volunteers and donors sharing their Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their retirement accounts, to the generosity of so many businesses, schools, faith communities, service organizations, and community members; it takes all of us to keep the Market food shelf stocked. Every gift makes a difference and we are grateful!”
