Market Cart provides fresh produce delivered to seniors currently participating in the Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS), receiving Meals on Wheels through Hastings Family Service, or residing at one of the Hastings senior communities (Mississippi Terrace, Oak Ridge Manor, Rivertown Courts, The Quill Senior Living) as well as the Hastings Senior Center. Participants receive a manageable portion of fresh produce including items like bananas, apples, oranges, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and other fruits or vegetables.
Market on the Move will deliver hunger-related programs and services from Hastings Family Service out into the Hastings area communities. A new refrigerated van will also allow HFS to participate in additional food rescue efforts.
Supporting the Market
Much of the food we distribute is purchased from Second Harvest Heartland and our local grocers. Monetary donations are used to assist in these purchases. Hastings Family Service is able to turn a $10 donation into 70 pounds of food.
HFS also relies heavily on donations from local churches, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and individuals. Please consider hosting a food or fund drive to support the Market.
For more information, please visit our Ways to Give page.
Volunteers are essential to the Market. Volunteers assist shoppers, pack groceries and sort food donations.
