We want your volunteer experience with Hastings Family Service (HFS) to be exceptional! There are many factors to consider when exploring positions, and the chart below may help answer questions related to each position's requirements, scheduling options, and additional details. If you are not sure about making an ongoing commitment, consider becoming a substitute or making a short-term commitment of two or three months to help cover some of the extra openings during the winter travel season.
Specific Needs/Shifts Available
You are welcome to apply for any position at any time. We are currently looking for volunteers to serve these specific shifts:
- Food Rescue Sorting: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings weekly shifts (shorter shift 10am-noon)
- Food Rescue Pick Up: Monday through Friday mornings weekly shifts and substitutes needed (shorter shift 9-11am)
- Market Food Shelf: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday weekly shifts and substitutes needed; minimum commitment of two shifts per month
- Rivertown Treasures: Monday (9am-12:30pm), Wednesday (9am-12:30pm), and Thursday (12:30-4pm) weekly shifts
- Market Cart: Monday shifts; monthly or twice-monthly commitment

Short-Term Volunteer Opportunities
HFS often needs short term volunteers to help with special events like School Supplies, Project Share, food drives, and more! A volunteer application is not required for these opportunities; simply sign up using the link(s) provided below. Please carefully read the description and requirements (age, ability to lift, etc.) listed for each volunteer shift.
