Community Rallies to Fight Local Hunger

Graphic with Minnesota Foodshare logo of state of MN and text thank you $181,102 plus 34,181 pounds, your generous support enables the Market food programs to provide help and hope for neighbors.

Hastings Family Service (HFS) is excited to share this year’s Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign, which ran March 1 through April 6, raised $181,102 and 34,181 pounds of food to help HFS carry out its mission of providing help and hope for neighbors. The amount raised will make an even greater impact by receiving a proportionate match from MN FoodShare.

Executive Director, Amy Sutton, indicates, “The generosity of the area community once again helped HFS maximize the proportionate match for food and funds offered by MN Foodshare.  A successful MN Foodshare March campaign and Hastings Tastings event was more important than ever due to the uncertain economic times, and our community continues to make fighting hunger a priority. It is help and hope in action at a time when we anticipate a decline in resources and an increase in need.”

HFS is grateful for every gift received during this critical campaign with every one of them making a difference. Notably comprising over 32% of gifts received is $30,000 from the Ruth Gale and George W. Doffing Charitable Fund and $28,555 raised from this year’s Hastings Tastings benefit.

According to Amy Tix, HFS Programs Director, “One wonderful aspect of this campaign is that everyone in the community can get involved. From preschoolers hosting cereal drives, the National Honor Society high schoolers leading an area neighborhoods drive, to so many businesses, schools, faith communities, service organizations, HFS volunteers, and donors, keeping the Market food shelf stocked is a group effort. In 2024, HFS was fortunate that over 29% of our food and care items came from community donations, second only to food secured free through our local food bank. This is truly remarkable and why March is one of our favorite months at HFS.”
