The 4th annual Drive Out Hunger golf tournament was held at Hastings Golf Club on Monday, June 10, raising $18,500 for Hastings Family Service. According to Kelly Carter, HFS Development and Community Relations Coordinator, “The weather was exceptional and we had an amazing turnout with 25 foursomes participating. The proceeds from this event come at the perfect time to help families during the summer months when budgets are a little tighter with kids home for the summer.”

Tournament sponsors Farmers Insurance – Jim Allen Agency, Hastings Ford, Chrysler, and Crossroads Shell Rapid Lube, and Smead all participated with golf teams as well. Golfers were treated to lunch sponsored by Allina Health; dinner by Hastings Networking Group and dessert sponsored by Culver’s. Edward Jones – Office of Kelli Reitzel, AAMS™ sponsored the golf carts; M2Business helped with the putting contest and Vermillion Insurance hosted the hole-in-one contest. Swag bags were sponsored by Nine Eagles and Plastic Printers.

Hole sponsors who helped Drive out Hunger were American Family Insurance – Tony Ciro Agency; Apple Exteriors; Benedictine Living Community; Collins Wealth Management; Dakota Electric Association; Downtown Tire and Auto; First National Bank; Hastings Hockey Association; HCTV; Hastings Storage and Service; Lewis, Kisch & Associates, Ltd.; Merchants Bank; MidCountry Bank; Millner Family Chiropractic; Premier Bank Minnesota; Radke & Mohrhauser LLC; Rivertown Days; and the YMCA. In-kind gifts and prizes were provided by Coborn’s, Duff’s Meats 2, Fleet Farm, Graphic Design Inc., Hastings Golf Club, Hastings Public House, Hometown Ace Hardware, Miss Daisy’s Mercantile, Missi’s Sip and Savor, Spiral Brewery, the Busted Nut, and Treasure Island Resort and Casino. HFS is grateful to the golf planning committee, golfers, volunteers, and the many businesses and sponsors for making it a fun and successful event!

HFS Executive Director Amy Sutton shared at dinner that May was the busiest month for the food shelf in the 54-year history of the organization with 310 households receiving food on-site through the in-person choice model food shelf, or 7-10 day food orders or Market Express orders through the drive thru. Distribution programs using the Market on the Move van continue to grow and HFS is also partnering with SPARK and the Rec-Arts-Police program throughout the summer to provide meals and snacks for kids. Sutton thanked the crowd and concluded “The need has grown, and it is so important that you are here. Together we can make sure no one in the community goes hungry.”
