Hastings Family Service and the community came together to raise $53,712 in July to help feed and support area families through the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Summer Challenge. July was a special time to grow giving with financial donations receiving a proportionate match from Open Your Heart.

Hastings Family Service’s Executive Director Amy Sutton indicates, “Summer is a time when giving typically slows and community needs increase. Every dollar makes a difference for kids and families who don’t have enough to eat.”

Hastings Family Service is poised to make the most impact with the funds raised through maximized purchasing power. For every $10 HFS receives, 70 pounds of food can be purchased through Second Harvest Heartland to feed a neighbor for one week. Every $30 can feed a family of three for a week.

Hastings Family Service is grateful to all who gave financially during the July campaign and to Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless for increasing the impact of that generosity.
